SME Notice: Helper City & USU Eastern Athletics are hosting a celebration tomorrow, Saturday October 12th from 12 noon -2:00 pm at Gardner Field to celebrate College Baseball and Women's Softball coming to Helper fields this spring. Come enjoy free hotdogs, snacks and a beverage and swag at the door for kids.

As flu season is upon us, we kindly ask for your support in reminding your children not to bring toys or blankets to school, unless it is part of a class activity communicated by the teacher. This helps us maintain a healthy environment for all students.
Additionally, please encourage your child to wear warm clothing and a coat as the weather begins to change.

We understand that the information shared this week regarding a cell phone ban during school hours is a huge change for you and your students.
We will communicate regularly over the next month to help you understand the implementation details. We will share data describing the rationale for the consideration, details about student expectations, and how we can work together to work through this transition together.
Questions were brought to us yesterday regarding students with medical needs, how the pouches will be locked and unlocked, and the use of phones during extra-curricular activities.

SME Parent Reminder: Tomorrow is picture day! Please send your children with their best smiles. Siblings can come for pictures between 10:00 am and 11:00 am.

Starting on October 21, 2024, Carbon School District is implementing a cell phone ban. Our primary goal is to reduce the overwhelming distraction to learning caused by cell phone use in school.
For secondary schools, we are implementing a policy requiring cell phones to be locked in a school-provided, signal-blocking pouch. The students will be responsible for locking their phones in the pouch at the beginning of the school day. The students will maintain possession of their phones during the entire day as long as the phone remains in the pouch.
We understand that this is a big change and parents will have many questions. We also realize that parents must contact their students in emergency situations. Please read through the FAQ and infographic found on our district and school websites to help answer some of your initial questions.
We will continue to share information from now until the planned implementation day to help ease the transition for students and parents.

Carbon School District is seeking applications for a Special Education Aide at Sally Mauro Elementary School in Helper, Utah. Must have a High School diploma or GED. Must be able to pass a LiveScan fingerprint background screening. Delivers educational interventions designed by Special Education teachers to help students meet educational, academic, life skills, behavioral, physical, social and emotional goals. Assists teachers with Special Education students to enable learning with minimal disruptions to other students. Due to the varied and individual needs of each student, the Special Education Aide may provide a variety of support and assistance, and should be flexible adjusting to student needs. Will work approximately 29 hours per week. Beginning pay is $15.07 per hour. Apply online at www.carbonschools.org
Today, there was a law enforcement incident in Helper that resulted in Helper Middle School and Sally Mauro Elementary to be placed on "hold", which means everyone remained in the building and school was conducted as usual. The schools were supported by our school resource officers patrolling the doors and assisting people who came to the school. Due to the incident, there were changes for the busing route and walking students that live near the subdivision by the incident. Parents were contacted, and supported the school with assisting with picking up their children. Carbon District would like to thank law enforcement, parents, staff and students for supporting this safety protocol. Outside of having an "indoor recess" after lunch, the students days were not interrupted and everyone was safe and learning.

What: For Homecoming Week, we are starting new traditions. This year, we will be having our first annual Kindergarten-Senior Walk. Kindergarteners and Seniors will walk toward each other from opposite sides of the football field and meet on the 50-yard line, where our Seniors will pass the torch to the next generation of Carbon Dinos. Wear blue! There will be food trucks on site for the Dinos Allstar Rally.

We had an amazing time at our Rock Our School concert yesterday! The energy was electric, especially with the Carbon High drumline pumping up our students first thing in the morning.
A huge thank you to Kenny and Harim Driggs, Becky, Skies, and Kari Driggs for their tremendous support. We also appreciate the Sheriffs Department for providing bouncers, ensuring a safe environment for everyone.
Special thanks to Kevin Hurst from USUE for bringing softball and baseball players, along with a student ambassador, and for sponsoring SME school shirts for all students and staff.

Carbon School District is seeking applications for a part time Warehouse Worker. Must be able to pass a Live Scan fingerprint background screening. Must have a valid driver's license. Must have a high school diploma or GED. Performs all functions within the scope of the warehouse for the purpose of providing warehousing operations. Participates in the receipt, storage, loading, unloading, inventory, documenting logs, and delivery of food items and school supplies. Prepares orders by pulling from stock to meet delivery requirements. Transports a variety of items. Delivers orders to appropriate schools or buildings. Ability to safely operate a variety of warehouse equipment including but not limited to delivery trucks, forklifts, and other warehouse tools and equipment. Clean all areas in the warehouse. Previous warehouse experience preferred. Regularly lift and move objects 10-50 lbs or more. This position is part-time and will work 20-29 hours per week. Apply online at www.carbonschools.org
