If students are not meeting course requirements or are having disciplinary problems, guidance counselors may intervene to remedy the situation.. The first priority of the counselor is to ensure that students perform their best academically. Counselors in secondary education are tasked with helping adolescents navigate the unique educational, social and behavioral obstacles related to attending school. This may include issues such as staying in school and avoiding substance abuse. They must also act as social workers, seeking to identify home-based problems that may negatively impact the academic and social development of students. A school counselor is expected to be very knowledgeable of career preparation in order to provide advice to students regarding education and employment options after high school. Carbon School District would like to thank the Wellington Fire Department, Wellington Police Department, and the Utah Highway Patrol for their immediate and thorough response to a minor collision involving a school bus this morning. Wellington had 8 responders arrive on the scene. Those responders were split into two teams. One team of two firefighters and EMTs worked on checking the other vehicle involved and the occupants of that vehicle. The second team of two firefighters, an advanced EMT, and a paramedic evaluated the school bus driver and students. A second bus was dispatched to the scene to safely transport the students to school. We greatly appreciate the continued collaboration between first responders and district personnel.
