CHS Student Government is doing a Veterans Day wall dedicated to those who have served. All students received a slip of paper to fill out with information about the family member(s) who has served. If there are multiple family members, please have the student get additional slips from their Advisory teacher. CHS 1st quarter report cards are available online in the PowerSchool portal. You can access your student's report card by logging into the Parent Portal or the PowerSchool app. If you need help logging into your account contact the counseling office. If you need a printed copy for insurance or other reasons contact your student's counselor.

Winter sport registrations are open on Aktivate for any high school student interested in trying out for a winter sport. The following is a list of the sports that are open for registration: Boys and Girls Basketball, Boys and Girls Swimming, and Boys and Girls Wrestling... Registration is required to be eligible for tryouts. Students must also be academically eligible to tryout meaning that they have no PRB's and have no more than one F and a GPA above 2.0. Those students interested in participating in swimming have until October 31 to get registered and those interested in basketball or wrestling have until November 10 to get registered. CSD Students, Parents, and Guardians, I wanted to provide clarification on the cell phone policy as we start 2nd quarter on Monday, October 21. We will begin a "soft rollout" for the new cell phone policy that will be in effect until November 13. This means that we are going to enforce the ban on cell phones during instructional time and use reminders for non-instructional time to help students adjust to the new expectations. The pouches will not be issued until the new policy is implemented. This means that students will be expected to keep their phones out of sight during class without the use of the pouches. The soft rollout will be in effect until the new policy is passed in November. We hope that enforcing a strict ban during class time and constantly reminding students during non-instructional times will help the students adjust to the upcoming changes. CSD Parents and Guardians, We understand that the information shared this week regarding a cell phone ban during school hours is a huge change for you and your students. Carbon School District is seeking applications for a Color Guard Advisor at Carbon High School in Price, Utah. Must have a High School Diploma or GED. Must be able to pass a Live Scan fingerprint background screening. The Color Guard instructor coordinates the preparations, exercises, and activities of the school marching band’s auxiliary unit, the Color Guard. The instructor prepares and directs the unit for independent performance and competition, as well as for performances integrated within the larger marching band. Prepares warm-up routines/practice exercises for the unit; choreographs, arranges, and implements color guard routine(s), both as an integrated part of the marching band, and as an independent unit; schedules and conducts extra rehearsals for the unit. Schedules separate competition events as the unit transitions its status from an attachment of the marching band to an independent competition entity (Winter Guard) during the winter season; Other related duties, as assigned, to assist the Band Director prepare students for competitions and public appearances, including parades and reviews. Collaborate with individual teachers regarding their student's academic progress. Assist teachers in implementing differentiated instruction and/or classroom-based interventions. Support classroom lessons by integrating into a support role with individual children and small groups. Will work with troubled students or those who have problems in their education. CSD Parents and Guardians, Starting on October 21, 2024, Carbon School District is implementing a cell phone ban. Our primary goal is to reduce the overwhelming distraction to learning caused by cell phone use in school. For secondary schools, we are implementing a policy requiring cell phones to be locked in a school-provided, signal-blocking pouch. The students will be responsible for locking their phones in the pouch at the beginning of the school day. The students will maintain possession of their phones during the entire day as long as the phone remains in the pouch. We understand that this is a big change and parents will have many questions. We also realize that parents must contact their students in emergency situations. Please read through the FAQ and infographic found on our district and school websites to help answer some of your initial questions. We will continue to share information from now until the planned implementation day to help ease the transition for students and parents. Today, there was a law enforcement incident in Helper that resulted in Helper Middle School and Sally Mauro Elementary to be placed on "hold", which means everyone remained in the building and school was conducted as usual. The schools were supported by our school resource officers patrolling the doors and assisting people who came to the school. Due to the incident, there were changes for the busing route and walking students that live near the subdivision by the incident. Parents were contacted, and supported the school with assisting with picking up their children. Carbon District would like to thank law enforcement, parents, staff and students for supporting this safety protocol. Outside of having an "indoor recess" after lunch, the students days were not interrupted and everyone was safe and learning.

Parents Carbon High needs to fill two slots on the school community council. Every public school in Utah has a School Community Council. The councils are made up of school employees who are elected by employees and parents who are elected by parents of students attending the school. Membership terms are for two years. If you are interested in applying for one of the spots you can print a candidate form on the Carbon High web page or pick up a form in the CHS main office .

SENIORS...TOMORROW: For Homecoming week on October 2nd at 6:30pm, we are starting a new tradition. This year, we will be having our first annual Kindergarten-Senior Walk. Kindergarteners and Seniors will walk toward each other from opposite sides of the football field and meet on the 50-yard line, where our Seniors will pass the torch to the next generation of Carbon Dinos. Wear your Carbon gear! There will be food trucks on site for the Dinos All-Star Rally. We will still be doing our traditional Senior Walk at all the CSD Elementary and Middle schools in May.

The CHS Homecoming Parade will start at 12:30 PM on Friday, October 4, 2024. It will run down Main Street from 400 East to 100 West. Football Game against North Sanpete is at 7:00 PM with a drone show to follow.

Carbon School District is seeking applications for an Assistant Drill Team Coach at Carbon High School in Price, Utah. Must have a High School Diploma or GED. Must be able to pass a Live Scan fingerprint background screening. An Assistant Coach supports the head coach, ensures that equipment and facilities are maintained, and performs administrative duties. Assistant Coaches also schedule and supervise practice sessions, maintain training equipment and organize team events. Knowledge of dance and teaching and/or coaching. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work with students, parents, colleagues, and administration. Will work approx 29 hours per week. At about 10:25am this morning, CHS experienced a false fire alarm within the building. The building was evacuated quickly and safely. Once emergency authorities determined it was safe to return into the building, all classes returned to our regular schedule.
