We understand that the information shared this week regarding a cell phone ban during school hours is a huge change for you and your students.
We will communicate regularly over the next month to help you understand the implementation details. We will share data describing the rationale for the consideration, details about student expectations, and how we can work together to work through this transition together.
Questions were brought to us yesterday regarding students with medical needs, how the pouches will be locked and unlocked, and the use of phones during extra-curricular activities.

Carbon School District is seeking applications for a Color Guard Advisor at Carbon High School in Price, Utah. Must have a High School Diploma or GED. Must be able to pass a Live Scan fingerprint background screening. The Color Guard instructor coordinates the preparations, exercises, and activities of the school marching band’s auxiliary unit, the Color Guard. The instructor prepares and directs the unit for independent performance and competition, as well as for performances integrated within the larger marching band. Starting on October 21, 2024, Carbon School District is implementing a cell phone ban. Our primary goal is to reduce the overwhelming distraction to learning caused by cell phone use in school.
For secondary schools, we are implementing a policy requiring cell phones to be locked in a school-provided, signal-blocking pouch. The students will be responsible for locking their phones in the pouch at the beginning of the school day. The students will maintain possession of their phones during the entire day as long as the phone remains in the pouch.
We understand that this is a big change and parents will have many questions. We also realize that parents must contact their students in emergency situations. Please read through the FAQ and infographic found on our district and school websites to help answer some of your initial questions.
We will continue to share information from now until the planned implementation day to help ease the transition for students and parents.

Will work approximately 29 hours per week. Beginning pay is $15.07 per hour. Additional duties include, but are not limited to: assisting moderate and severely disabled (physical, behavioral, sensory and/or developmental) students with adequate support to access their educational needs. Support includes being actively involved in the physical education curriculum, social interactions on field trips and at lunch, in the special education and general education classrooms, toileting, etc. This position also requires support of the overall operations at Helper Middle School. We have received notification that the law enforcement incident in Helper has been resolved. All students and staff were safe and had a mildly interrupted day. We appreciate the support from law enforcement, parents, and staff.
Today, there was a law enforcement incident in Helper that resulted in Helper Middle School and Sally Mauro Elementary to be placed on "hold", which means everyone remained in the building and school was conducted as usual. The schools were supported by our school resource officers patrolling the doors and assisting people who came to the school. Due to the incident, there were changes for the busing route and walking students that live near the subdivision by the incident. Parents were contacted, and supported the school with assisting with picking up their children. Carbon District would like to thank law enforcement, parents, staff and students for supporting this safety protocol. Outside of having an "indoor recess" after lunch, the students days were not interrupted and everyone was safe and learning.
Currently there is a law enforcement incident in the Spring Canyon subdivision that has both Helper Middle School and Sally Mauro Elementary on "HOLD". Law enforcement has requested that no students be released for busing or walking into that area. This will affect Carbon High, Helper Middle School, and Sally Mauro students that live or walk in that subdivision area. At this time, at the end of the school day, all students that live in that subdivision will be held at the school. Parents can pick their students up from the school, but police are requesting that people do not enter the subdivision at this time.
